Hematocrit
Medical review pending
What it is
Hematocrit is the percentage of your blood volume made up of red blood cells — the oxygen-carrying fraction of blood.
Why it matters
It reflects how many red cells you have relative to plasma (the liquid part of blood). It often moves together with hemoglobin and helps describe oxygen-carrying capacity.
Everyday factors linked to it
Hydration can temporarily shift hematocrit; iron, B12, folate, altitude, and blood loss are broader factors clinicians explore when this number changes.
